Elizabeth Woolston- 1805

Elizabeth Woolston- 1805Elizabeth Woolston completed her coloured medallion sampler in 1805 while at Ackworth School. Not a great deal is known about her but we do know that she is from Irthlingborough and attended the school from 1804 to 1806. It is believed that these samplers were the end result of their
stitching education while attending Ackworth. There are a number of samplers from the early 1800's which resemble Elizabeth's in that the inscription is centrally placed, with a number of them having a leaf placed on either side. All contain randomly scattered upper case letters, worked either in cross stitch or Algerian eye and the borders in most are comprised of half medallions. Elizabeth's sampler is pictured in Ackworth School Engagement calendar.

Worked in cross-stitch, algerian eye and cross stitch over one thread.
